Summer Fun & Outdoor Learning! - Licking SWCD E-News

June 10, 2016

Summer is a great time for outdoor learning.  Join us as we head outside to learn about many of nature’s critters and their habitats.

COVER CROP COST SHARE:  Cover crops enhance soil structure, prevent erosion and improve a field’s environmental quality.  Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is offering a cost share with the application deadline extended to Monday, June 20.  Visit our website or call 740-670-5330 for details.

COVER CROP FLY ON:  Aerial application can be the answer to establishing a cover crop stand after soybeans, without having to worry about the weather and getting back into the field after harvest.  Licking SWCD will buy the seed in bulk and pass the savings on to the producer. Contact Chodd Armfelt, or 740-670-5330, for pricing and details.

NATIONAL POLLINATOR WEEK, June 20-26:  Did you know that over 70% of the fruits and vegetables we eat require pollination by bees, other insects, birds or small mammals?  Join us for a week-long celebration via Facebook.  Stop by our special programs on June 21st and 24th.  See below for more information.

PROJECT WET EDUCATOR WORKSHOP:  This action-oriented workshop focuses on developing a deeper understanding of water and its value to our well being. The workshop will be held 8:30a-3:30p, Thursday, July 14, at Infirmary Mound Park.  College credit is available. Preregistration is required.

ENVIROTHON:  Good luck to the Granville High School Envirothon Teams as they compete in the Ohio Envirothon, June 13-14!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:  Interested in volunteering?  Help us with education programs, events, demo garden tasks and in-office assistance.  For more information about volunteer opportunities, contact Denise Natoli Brooks, 740-670-5330, or
