USDA Conservation Programs Deadline Set for November 18

Newark Ohio, October 31, 2016 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced Friday, November 18, 2016, as the deadline to submit applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) in Ohio.

EQIP provides financial and technical assistance to farmers and forestland owners for conservation management and structures (practices) and conservation plans.

The conservation plan and practices help agricultural producers and forestland owners improve the natural resources on their property.  These practices also benefit the public by reducing soil erosion, improving water quality, cropland, soil health and wildlife habitat, and conserving energy.

EQIP funds are available for practices that target organic systems, high tunnel systems (green houses), pollinator habitat development, the Monarch Butterfly Project, cropland, confined and pastured livestock, wildlife habitat, and forestry.

Licking County landowners should make an appointment with Joe Koehler, 740-670-5329, or David Houston, 740-670-5237, at the NRCS office, 771 E. Main Street, Newark, Ohio 43055, to begin the conservation planning process.
