Plant Seedling Trees
NEWARK, OH (February 21, 2017) – Thinking about planting trees this spring? Did you know that trees planted in the right spot can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 20%? Homes with trees also sell for up to 5% more than similar homes without trees.
These benefits are just some of the reasons why Licking Soil & Water has chosen to offer seedling trees at affordable prices for decades. Over the past 45 year, Licking Soil & Water has brought over one million trees into the county.
Licking Soil & Water specifically promotes native trees because they are adapted to our growing conditions and are better able to survive in Licking County.
When choosing what type of tree to plant, consider how large the tree with get over a period of decades. Although a tiny seedling tree may look silly planted far away from the house, that seedling might turn into a giant tree in fifty years. Consider how the tree may impact structures, a neighbor’s property, overhead or underground utilities, and roadways.
Use tree guides provided by Licking Soil & Water and NRCS to choose the right trees for your needs. In addition to selling 20 native trees, Licking Soil & Water also offers planting tools, wildflower seeds, and rain barrels.

Tree orders are being accepted now and are taken on a first come, first served basis. The order deadline is Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Pick up is Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Licking Soil & Water Office.
