Jaret Boettcher, AmeriCorps Buckeye Lake Watershed Coordinator
Jaret Boettcher is Soil & Water’s Buckeye Lake Watershed Coordinator through AmeriCorps’ Central Ohio Collaborative for Conservation program. Originally from Cuyahoga County, he grew up on the Lake Erie waterfront, regularly visiting nature preserves and metroparks in the greater Cleveland area and gaining an interest in nature and conservation. He enjoys birdwatching, hiking, and camping in his spare time.
Jaret recently graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering in May of 2024. He focused on agricultural soil and water management with his degree and understands best practices and tools for such management, including sustainable waste management, GIS software, and waterway geomorphology. He also focused on sustainable agriculture, particularly urban agriculture, through projects with Ohio State’s Second-Year Transformational Experience Program and the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering’s capstone program. These projects provided him with experience in community engagement and cooperation.
As the Buckeye Lake Watershed Coordinator, Jaret will support programs and organizations working to improve and maintain the water and habitat quality of Buckeye Lake. This will include coordinating community outreach and education with groups such as Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow and the Buckeye Lake Region Corporation, along with assisting in inspections, maintenance, and data collection for water quality. Other responsibilities include preparing reports, coordinating annual events, and supporting grant applications for Buckeye Lake and its watershed.
