Cover Crop Funding

Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District is now offering the 2026 Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) Cover Crop Program. Cover crops provide multiple potential benefits for landowners including providing nutrients, weed suppression, increased yield, improved soil health, water quality protection, and reduced production costs. This program provides funding to Licking County landowners and producers that follow certain criteria covered below. The funding encourages farmers to plant cover crops to enhance conservation efforts and productivity.

To be eligible for the program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A soil test from within the last 4 years
  • Be on soybean or corn silage ground
  • Copy of germ test
  • Invoice of seed

Some guidelines for the cover crop program include:

  • $12/acre
  • Maximum of 175 acres per landowner/producer
  • The fields CANNOT be receiving payments for cover crops from NRCS, but can receive from other private programs

The 2026 Cover Crop program application period is currently closed. Please check back for the 2027 season!
