Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL)
What is a TMDL...?
A TMDL establishes the maximum amount of a pollutant allowed in a waterbody and serves as the starting point or planning tool for restoring water quality.
What do TMDLs cover...?
TMDLs can be set for various standards, including recreational, consumption, drinking, and aquatic life. If a watershed is below the TMDL for one category, it does not necessarily mean it is safe for all categories.
Pollutants can include bacteria, excess nutrients, and sediment/metals.

The above interactive map breaks down the TMDL categories into swimming, eating, aquatic life, and drinking water. If the watershed of interest exceeds the TMDL for any of these categories they will be outlined in red and give a breakdown of information.
