Students learn what makes a mammal a mammal and how mammal adaptations affect their survival in their environment. We explore how animal adaptations affect the animals diet and behavior. Students learn about some of the different mammals that are common in Ohio as well as some of the mammals that have been extirpated from the state or have become extinct. Students learn how extirpation and extinction occur and how some animals have been reintroduced. Finally, we discuss the different signs of a mammal's presence and students get a chance to identify different animal signs.
